A solar panel, a 24VDC arm, and a remote arrive in one box, which is the main reason the TOPENS A5S is our default for a typical single swing gate. The 50W motor is rated for a 550-pound gate or a 16-foot leaf, and that covers a lot of residential wood, vinyl, and tube gates. We also like the compact aluminum arm and the 50 dB running sound, which is low for a residential driveway.
Installation is the part that sells it: basic tools, screw-in mounting, and no high-voltage wiring. Programming the limits takes patience, but the kit does not require a contractor's toolbox. We prefer a kit that arrives with everything needed for the first open, and the A5S is close.
Where the A5S asks for attention is power management. Put the panel in the sunniest spot you have, keep the battery matched to the gate's weight, and expect slow or incomplete cycles if the battery gets low. The first few weeks are the time to watch the limits and the remote. For a medium single gate, it is the least fussy route into solar in this set.
Pros
- Complete panel-and-remote kit
- Fits 550-lb or 16-ft single gates
- Quiet 50 dB operation
- Basic-tool, no-welding install
Cons
- Gate battery is a separate purchase
- Only one remote included
We recommend the TOPENS A5S as the default solar opener for a typical single swing gate because it includes the panel, fits most residential gates, and keeps installation within DIY reach.
