Eighty percent — roughly 38 degrees — is the number that puts this mower at the front of the group, and it comes from two separately driven 88-watt hub motors rather than one motor and an axle. On a real bank, that's the difference between mowing the slope and mowing around it. We were also taken with the omni wheel at the front: it lets the mower pivot at the top of a hill instead of three-point-turning and scuffing the turf.
The rest of the hardware is aimed at the same ground. A 360-degree LiDAR and dual-camera array maps the yard without a perimeter wire, and the app splits it into as many as 20 zones, so a steep side bank, a flat front lawn, and a shady strip each get their own schedule and mowing direction. Mapping is the slow part of ownership: you walk the boundary, then correct it. We found that effort front-loaded — an afternoon of fiddling, then very little afterwards.
Cutting comes from two discs, one of them a dedicated edge disc that hangs the blade past the body, so the mower can run a bed line instead of leaving a fringe for the trimmer. Height runs 2.2 to 4 inches on a 7.9-inch deck, and the 2.2-inch floor is the one figure that limits it: if you keep Bermuda or another grass you scalp short in summer, this deck won't get there.
One detail we kept coming back to is the charge limit, which caps the battery at 80% instead of leaving it full between runs. It's the sort of setting that only matters if you intend to keep a mower for years, and it tells you something about who Mammotion built this for.
Pros
- All-wheel drive rated for 80% grades
- LiDAR and vision mapping with no perimeter wire
- Dedicated edge disc cuts along bed lines
- Adjustable charge limit protects the battery
Cons
- 0.37-acre ceiling limits it to smaller lawns
Our pick for most sloped yards: it climbs an 80% grade, cuts a clean edge, and asks less of your budget than the other steep-grade machines here.
