A year on one battery is the reason we reach for the HRM 200 first. It sends real-time heart rate and HRV to compatible Garmin watches, bike computers, fitness equipment, and apps, and the routine stays simple: wake it, pair it, ride. There is no charging cable to lose and no nightly top-up to remember. The one-year replaceable battery is the detail that keeps it on the bike.
The strap is machine washable and comes in two sizes, XS–S and M–XL. We wore it under a jersey on rides where we forgot it was there, and the 3 ATM rating means sweat and rain are not a concern. The pod is small and sits flat against the chest; the hook-and-loop closure is easy to set before a ride. We did not have to fiddle with it mid-ride.
What the HRM 200 does not do is record a workout on its own or add running dynamics. For cycling, that is a fair trade: the data we need is heart rate, and the strap delivers it without extra complexity. If you already use a Garmin head unit and want one less thing to charge, the simpler routine is the point. The HRM 200 is the strap we leave on the bike and forget about until the battery needs changing.
Pros
- Pairs with Garmin bike computers and apps
- Up to a year on a replaceable battery
- Machine-washable strap in two sizes
- Sends heart rate and HRV data
Cons
- Costs more than budget chest straps
For most cyclists, the HRM 200 is the simplest reliable choice: it pairs with Garmin bike computers, stays comfortable, and runs a year on a replaceable battery.
