Sixteen gigabytes is the number that separates this Victus from most budget gaming laptops we considered. Paired with the RTX 4050 and its 6GB of video memory, it gives you the two things that matter most at this end of the market: enough memory for modern games and a GPU that can use upscaling instead of folding at 1080p. The 144Hz IPS screen completes the package. That combination is why it earns our top spot.
In our time with it, the Victus felt like a machine built to sit on a desk and play. The 15.6-inch screen is matte, so overhead lights and windows are less of a nuisance, and the 144Hz refresh makes fast shooters and racing games feel immediate. The keyboard has a numpad, which is handy for schoolwork and strategy games, and the chassis feels sturdy enough to carry between rooms. We did not find a feature that felt added just to fill a spec sheet.
The Nitro V has the faster 165Hz panel and the lighter body, but it starts with 8GB of memory. We prefer the Victus for most buyers because memory is harder to ignore than an extra 21Hz. If you already plan to open the laptop and add RAM, the Acer becomes the more exciting pick. The Victus is the one we hand to someone who wants to install a game and play it, not spend the first weekend upgrading.
Pros
- 16GB of RAM ready for modern games
- RTX 4050 with 6GB of video memory
- 144Hz IPS anti-glare display
- Numpad adds everyday usefulness
Cons
- 512GB SSD fills quickly with large games
This is the budget gaming laptop we recommend first: RTX 4050, 16GB of RAM, and a 144Hz screen without an immediate upgrade.
