The first question about any smart fan is whether it is a good fan, and the DREO answers it before the app is even open. Five blades on a 52-inch sweep and a rated 5,673 CFM put it near the top of this group for air movement, and the DC motor holds the noise down to a level we stopped noticing within a day. From across the room at mid speed, all we heard was the air itself.
The smart half is just as solid. The DREO app, Alexa, and Google Home all reach the fan, and pairing took one attempt in our testing rather than the several we have come to expect from ceiling fans. The remote's confirmation beep can be silenced, which sounds like a small thing until the fan is directly over your bed. The LED panel dims smoothly and shifts from warm to cool white.
That balance is why this is the fan we recommend first. It has the airflow for a living room, the motor for a bedroom, and three ways in when the network misbehaves, and in our time with it nothing pushed us back to the wall switch out of frustration. Unremarkable reliability is exactly what you want from the thing hanging over your head.
Two situations point elsewhere. On a low ceiling the 13.7-inch drop is more than an eight-foot room can spare, and the Sofucor flush mount gives most of the same performance with less hang. If the room is a small bedroom, the 42-inch DREO does the same job with a fraction of the capacity.
Pros
- Moves 5,673 CFM without the racket
- Alexa, Google Home, and app all work
- Smooth dimming and warm-to-cool tuning
Cons
- Light is modest and shines mostly downward
- Warranty runs only 12 months
Our default pick: it moves a lot of air, stays quiet doing it, and answers to Alexa, Google, and its own app. Buy it for a main living room or bedroom unless your ceiling is low.
