At 201g, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is the lightest book-style foldable in this group, and that number is the reason it wins the daily-carry argument. Folded, it slips into a jacket pocket without the usual brick feel; opened, it gives you a 7.6-inch canvas. We kept noticing the weight difference next to the 222g HONOR Magic V5, especially when using the phone one-handed.
The 7.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED is the part that justifies the price. The screen is bright and colorful, and the 120Hz refresh makes scrolling feel immediate. Inside, the Snapdragon 8 Elite and 12GB of RAM are flagship hardware, and 512GB of storage means you can keep a lot of photos and downloads on board. We did not find a performance compromise that changed how we used it.
Battery is the other balance point. The 4,800mAh cell is smaller than the Magic V5's 5,820mAh, but the Fold8 is 21g lighter and still carries water resistance. For most people, that is the better trade: a phone that is easier to carry all day and can handle a little rain.
The 50MP main camera is capable for everyday shots, though it is not the reason to choose this phone over a camera-first slab. The camera is the one place where the Fold8 feels merely good; the screen and weight are what you are paying for. We also like that Samsung did not force a choice between a big screen and a pocketable body; the Fold8 is the one foldable here that feels closest to a normal phone to carry.
Pros
- Lightest book-style foldable here
- Bright 7.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED
- Flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite and 12GB RAM
- Water resistant with 512GB storage
Cons
- Premium price for a foldable
- Single SIM only
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is the best foldable for most people: light enough to carry daily, with a big 120Hz screen, solid battery, and water resistance.
